Although born hearing, Bro Mike's deafness, due to measles, went undiagnosed until age two. He attended public schools, a handicapped school and a Christian school. He was taught as an oral deaf student.
Bro Mike learned signs from friends growing up and took additional classes at Madonna University in Livonia, Ml. At age 15, he was saved and started actively serving the Lord in his local church at 17. He worked on Bus Routes, Choir and Dramatic Specials, Visitation, Camp Counselor and even helped clean the church, In total, he has been serving the Lord for over 36 years. They are thankful he is able to speak well and can preach by voice for deputation or revival meetings. |
Candy was saved at college in Ohio in 1973. She knew God's call to full-time mission work, but trained at Birmingham Bible Institute while waiting for God's plan. They met at the Bible Institute in 1982 and were married a year later.
They served together as Deaf Ministry pastor and interpreter in two churches from 1982-2002. Bro Mike held an additional Sunday afternoon service for 4 years so he could preach to the Deaf in their own language.
In addition to the local church work, Mike was head of the Deaf Baptist Fellowship of Michigan from 1982-2001. They held annual State-Wide Deaf Revivals in local Baptist Church across Michigan.
In March 2002, he was commission as a Deaf missionary to the Deaf at Sword Deaf Baptist Church, in Clinton, Tn. Mike was ordained as an Independent Baptist in May 2003.
They served in Kentucky for 6 years. Mike has trained 2 Deaf men in Soul-Winning. Deaf and hearing were saved, baptized, and grew in the Lord.
In 2010, Mike met with Dr. Stringer and shared the ministry and explained the differences in language, culture, and needs of the Deaf. The Lord opened the door at Ravenswood Baptist Church as David Garcia, a Deaf man, was ordained to become Deaf pastor of the ministry. Since then, Mike has worked together with Bro David giving pastoral advice, leadership training, and fellowship.
Mike is on the Board of Directors of the King James Bible Research Council, (KJBRC), helping folks understand its benefits; as well as working on Deaf KJB. He is also on the Board of the Sword Deaf Baptist College and staff in Andersonville, TN.
